Senior Hardware Design Engineer

Microbus is looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Electronics Engineer to work on the design of parts of industrial computer systems, including x86 processor boards. They will be involved in the whole design process from specification through schematic design, board layout, debug, and support for initial production while also liaising with our sales, test and documentation departments. Note, in particular, that we do not have a CAD department and engineers do their own schematic and layout work. Some of the work involves being the sole engineer on a project, although help and advice is always available.

The job entails:
               
• schematic design and layout (both using Zuken Visula software, although this will gradually change to Cadence
  Allegro), and
• debug and support of both existing projects and new designs.

Primary skills required:

• digital design (especially an interest in higher-speed design and microcontrollers). Minimum 2 years experience,
  ideally more.

Other useful skills include:

• analogue design
• attention and concern for detail
• programming, to write and maintain test software in C.

Qualifications:

We generally require a 2-2 degree or above in electronic engineering, but may accept alternative qualifications if  they can show particular electronic design ability.

General:

Unlike many other companies we adopt a structure where the engineer is involved in the whole design process: component selection, circuit design, schematic capture as well as PCB layout and routing using advanced CAD tools, followed by design debug and verification.

Knowledge of the particular tools we employ is not essential, but would be helpful.  We are looking for a logical thinker and problem solver, who can:
 
• work in a team and independently
• can organise and prioritise multiple tasks
• adopt the flexible approach needed in a smaller company.
