South Wales Trunk Road Agency choose Microbus end-to-end vehicle technology solution for video streaming
Microbus has recently supplied an end-to-end emergency service vehicle technology solution to South Wales Trunk Road Agency (SWTRA) to provide video streaming at the scene of an incident and improve their operational efficiency.
The system, developed around the Microbus M-PC3 in-vehicle computer, has been integrated into a Land Rover Discovery and is linked to the Carnation genisys power management system to provide resilient emergency vehicle mobile data and control to the lights, radio, sirens and power management.
The M-PC3’s iDVR Digital Video Recording system is connected to three Microbus surveillance cameras: a forward facing Sabre, a rear facing observation camera and an IR reversing camera to provide officers with all round surveillance and remote video streaming for their arrival at the scene of an incident.
For officer safety, the rear observation is displayed on the screen enabling officers to see dangerous situations at the road side. The IR reversing camera is automatically selected when in reverse and displayed through the Microbus high-brightness touchscreen which is integrated into the dashboard.
The vehicle is also equipped with a mobile Wi-Fi hub so that other wireless devices can be used in or around the vehicle as well as a video streaming package to stream video form the scene back to the control room in real time.
This comprehensive touchscreen solution enables officers to access a full suite of mobile data applications including access to remote databases over a 3G or TETRA network. To aid officer workflow single button actions can trigger multiple events automatically; the emergency lights, radio, sirens, digital video recorder and other equipment's power management can be controlled through the computer event processor.
Using the Microbus Sabre and a rear-facing compact observation camera, officers are provided with surveillance and remote video streaming for their arrival at scene. A new feature offered by the Sabre 10 camera is a survey function that videos and accurately measures damage to roadway features and crash barriers after an incident. Detailed footage can then be sent back to the control room to provide motorway maintenance workers with exact information on replacement materials needed.
The M-PC3 also supports Sepura's TETRA radio virtual handset and radio head to provide resilient control of the radio console through the touchscreen display.
